President’s Car over a Railway Bridge
It was one day in July, Juche 39 (1950).
When the car with President Kim Il Sung in reached the River Rimjin, the bridge had been heavily bombed into halves by enemy planes.
Having learnt about it, the President proposed crossing a nearby railway bridge as a last resort.
His proposal was a complete surprise to the accompanying officials.
(It is absolutely impossible since the railway bridge is uneven with a series of sleepers and, what is more, it is in danger of being attacked by enemy planes at any time.)
They stood in his way.
At this time, too, our combatants are shedding blood in battles against enemies and they are waiting for us, so we shouldn’t hesitate to go ahead, said the President, persuading them to make way for him.
Eventually, the car, directed by the white flag one of the officials waved ahead of it, struggled over the railway bridge little by little on the pitch-dark night.
It was indeed an immortal sight unprecedented in the world war history.
