People’s Scientist, Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ri Sin Ung, researcher of Semiconductor Institute, winner of Kim Il Sung Prize

For 55 years he wrote tens of kinds of textbooks and reference books of over 50 000 pages including Theory of Semiconductor Elements, Up-to-date Electric Power and Electronic Elements and Encyclopedia of Electric Engineering(7), and trained 13 Doctors and 33 Masters. He not only completed a number of research projects but also developed a thyristor, a high voltage rectifier and solid-state relay for the first time in our country. During those days he was honoured with receiving thanks from the great leaders and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un tens of times and having souvenir photos taken with them. In addition, he was conferred Kim Il Sung Prize and several state commendations and orders.

Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ko Kyong Dal, researcher of Faculty of Metal Engineering, winner of Kim Jong Il Prize

He wrote scores of kinds of textbooks and reference books of up to 40 000 pages including Non-coking Iron Making and Samhwa-iron Metallurgy and trained 8 Doctors and more than 30 Masters. By completing the Juche iron production system by rotary kiln, he had the honour of receiving thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and of having a souvenir photograph taken with the Chairman. And he also greatly contributed to the development of metal industry and science and technology of the country by successfully completing tens of research projects for several sectors of the national economy.

Acad., Prof. and Dr. Jo Tok Hui, researcher of Faculty of Electric Engineering, winner of Kim Jong Il Prize

He has worked as a department head, a lecturer for as long as 59 years. He wrote more than 50 kinds of textbooks and reference books including Electric Machine, Calculation of Electric Machine Structure and Calculation of Electromagnetic Field of Electric Machines, and he trained over 50 sci-tech reserves. By solving lots of sci-tech problems arising in various sectors of national economy including ensuring domestic production of adhesion motor of underground tram car, he had the honour of getting thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and of having memorial photographs taken with the peerless great men. Thanks to the great love of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, he was conferred Kim Jong Il Prize in 2014.

Acad., Prof. and Dr. Kim Haeng Son, teacher of Faculty of Materials Science and Technology

He wrote 20 kinds of textbooks and reference books including Metal Welding, Welding Heat Procedure, Dissimilar Metal Welding, Materials for Pressurized Light Water Reactor and Welding and Six Language Vocabulary on Welding, and trained 7 Doctors and more than 20 Masters. By regenerating the large-scale bearing roll by means of deposition, he had the honour of receiving thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and also greatly contributed to the development of the economy and of science and technology of the country by successfully completing tens of research projects for several sectors of the national economy.

People’s Scientist, Prof. and Dr. Han Pyong Jun, Head, the Leading Laboratory of Postgraduate Institution

Han wrote some 20 textbooks and reference books of up to 37 000 pages including Casting Theory and Alloy Casting, designed and manufactured 20 kinds of casting and steel casting equipment and trained 5 Doctors and more than 20 Masters. By completing a research on high-strength spheroid graphite cast iron on rare earth complex inoculant, he had the honour of receiving thanks from President Kim Il Sung and also greatly contributed to the development of the country’s science and technology by successfully completing tens of research projects for several sectors of the national economy.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ri Kwang Hui, teacher of Faculty of Mechanical Science and Technology

He has been a lecturer and a researcher for over 50 years. He wrote several tens of kinds of textbooks and reference books of up to over 30 000 pages including Modern Machine Manufacturing Technology, Intelligent Manufacuring System and Nano Processing Technology in Manufacturing Machines, and trained 7 Doctors and 30-odd Masters. By resolving tens of sci-tech problems arising in various sectors of the national economy including research into transfer machine of automobile piston, flexible production system of box processing and spiral bevel gear processing, he was honoured with thanks from the the great leaders and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and of having souvenir photographs taken with them.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Choe Sun Yong, teacher of Faculty of Information Science and Technology

While working as a lecturer and researcher for 55 years, she has written tens of kinds of textbooks and reference books of more than 40 000 pages like Multimedia Technology and Linux Operation System. She also has trained a number of sci-tech reserves including over a score of those conferred academic degrees or titles. For the first time in our country she made an office desk e-calculator integrated with 100 percent domestic elements and also successfully completed tens of research projects arising in the several sectors of the national economy. By doing this, she had the honour of receiving more than 10 times of thanks and autographic letters from Chairman Kim Jong Il and of having photo sessions with the great leaders.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Paek Nong I, teacher of Faculty of Materials Science and Technology

He has been a lecturer and head of institute for 53 years and written tens of kinds of textbooks and reference books of some 30 000 pages. He presented a lot of papers of value which made a contribution to the development of machine industry and the overall national economy, and trained a score of sci-tech reserves. Having solved lots of scientific and technological problems including making rolls domestically, he had the honour of receiving thanks from the great leaders and of having memorial photos taken with them.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ri Thae Hyong, teacher of Faculty of Materials Science and Technology

As a lecturer and head of department for 43 years, he wrote tens of sorts of textbooks and reference books of over 40 000 pages including Metallic Materials, Heat Treatment, Material Protection Engineering and New Materials, and trained more than 30 sci-tech talents including 5 Doctors. He had the honour of receiving thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un by successfully resolving the problems arising in the sectors of national economy including those in continuous ingoting of bearing steel and production of weight alloy rail steel for Juche-orientation of metal materials.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Kim Chang Won, researcher of Faculty of Electric Engineering

Being a lecturer and a researcher for over 50 years he newly opened up 20 subjects like Electric Appliances Design and Making and Testing of Electric Appliances. He wrote tens of kinds of textbooks and reference books of up to 30 000 pages such as Encyclopedia of Electric Engineering. He developed an electronic valve for dancing fountain, established voltage surge compensation system of UHP electric arc furnace and carried out many other research projects. Thus he made a great contribution to the sci-tech development of electric appliance sector and Juche-orientation and modernization of the national economy and had the honour of having souvenir photos taken with the peerless great men.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Kim Kyu Phil, teacher of Faculty of Automation

Kim has worked as a department head and a lecturer for 43 years and written 12 kinds of textbooks and reference books of more than 30 000 pages. He trained over 40 sci-tech reserves and gave satisfactory solutions to a number of problems including integrated automation system of roasted sulphuric acid in smelting plants.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Pak Yong Thaek, head of Semiconductor Institute

In the last 33 years he has written 9 kinds of textbooks and reference books of over 10 000 pages including Up-to-date Electric Power and Electronic Elements, Micro sensor and Functional Device and Modern Power Semiconductor Device and its Application, and has trained 9 persons with academic degrees and titles. He established the production process of super power output semiconductor rectifiers and positive and negative temperature coefficient thermostats, and solved many other scientific and technological problems. Thus, he had the honour of receiving thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un tens of times, of taking part in National Conference of Scientists and Technicians twice, and of having memorial photos taken with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Also, he was awarded the title of merited scientist and state commendations.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ryu Yong Bo, researcher of Robotics Institute

He has been a researcher and a section chief for 47 years to write 15 kinds of textbooks and reference books of more than 10 000 pages including Encyclopedia of Machine Tool and trained many sci-tech reserves. He fulfilled several major projects including development of CNC device of machining centre, thus making great contributions to the introduction of CNC to machine tools. He was given thanks by Chairman Kim Jong Il.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ko Pyong Jun, teacher of Faculty of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering

He was a lecturer, a department head and a faculty dean for 50 years. He made big contributions to the consolidation of academic foundations by finding 13 new subjects including Marine Hydrodynamics and by writing 40-odd kinds of textbooks, reference books and scientific essays including Marine Dynamics. He was the first in our country to complete the design and building of ship for rapid flow river and finished many research projects for several sectors of national economy.

He had the honour of taking part in several conferences including Conference of Korean Intellectuals and having a photo taken with the great leaders.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Choe Kwang On, teacher of Faculty of Electronics

He has been a lecturer, a department head and a faculty dean for 53 years. He wrote 45 kinds of textbooks and reference books of 50 000 pages including Integrated Circuit Layout and Korean Encyclopedia, and trained more than 30 able sci-tech talents. By solving numerous scientific and technological problems arising in various sectors of national economy including the development of bipolar integrated circuit and silicon ultra-speed impulse diode, he greatly contributed to the development of country’s science and technology and had the honour of having a memorial photo taken with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Kim Won Il, tutor of Postgraduate Course

In the last 54 years working as a lecturer and a dean he has written more than 20 kinds of textbooks and reference books of 35 000 pages and trained capable sci-tech talents. In particular he worked as the dean of Postgraduate Course more than 10 years when he contributed to the training of over 1 300 promising sci-tech reserves. He had the honour of receiving thanks from the great leaders and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Candidate Acad., Prof. and Dr. Ryu Sun Ryol, tutor of Postgraduate Course

Being a lecturer and a dean for 48 years, Ryu newly found many subjects including Microelectronic Calculator, Peripherals and Computer Circuit, and wrote 65 kinds of textbooks and references of over 30 000 pages including Kwangmyong Encyclopedia(15), Computer Circuit and Computer Device Technology, while training 48 able sci-tech reserves. In addition, as the first dean of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, he completed lots of research projects like development of microcomputer and other software. Thus he had the honour of receiving thanks from the Chairman several times and of having souvenir photographs taken with the great leaders and the the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

People’s Scientist, Dr. and Associate Prof. Ri Jun Gi, head of Analyser Institute

By developing Near Infrared Rays Spectroscopy, he was awarded a prize and a medal for invention presented by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He also greatly contributed to the development of the eonomy and of science and technology by successfully developing 10 cutting-edge analysing instruments including fluorescence spectroscopy.

Prof. and Dr. Kim Kang Sop, researcher of Engineering Scientific Institute

He has been working as a MTnet member of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) since 2013. He participated in the 19^th International Workshop on Electromagnetic Induction in the Earth and the International Seminar on Mt. Paektu Volcano to present good scientific papers, and contributed some 10 articles to SCI and EI.

Dr. and Associate Prof. Kim Chon Ung, head of Laboratory of Water Treatments

He participated in 13 international seminars, including the 7^th International Conference on Electromagnetics; and the International Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ (IEEE) 9^th Seminar on Dielectric Material Application to present good papers. In February 2005, his Capacitive Grading Device for Protecting Corona Discharge in High Voltage Electric Machine Stator Bar was registered as an international patent. He has been working as an inspector of the magazine Polyma Engineering and Science since 2006 and that of the magazine Journal of Applied Polyma Science since 2007. He also contributed 22 articles to SCI and 9 to EI.

Dr. Kang Myong Chol, researcher of the Semiconductor Institute

He designed and manufactured in a Korean way the capacitive pressure sensor that is of great significance in modernizing the national economy and has been channelling his efforts into training reserves. He has been working as an inspector of the magazine Sensor and Actuator since 2017 and also contributed one article to SCI.

Dr. Song Hak Jin, teacher of Faculty of Mechanical Science and Technology

Working as a lecturer for 17 years, he wrote several textbooks and reference books including Elastic-Plastic Fracture Mechanics and Fracture Mechanics and its Application, and trained a number of sci-tech reserves. This promising scientist solved lots of scientific and technological problems for the national economy and had the honour of receiving thanks from Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un several times. Putting together his research work, he had his 3 essays published in SCI including Journal of Engineering Mechanics.
