International Conference on the 70th Founding anniversary of Kim Chaek University of Technology was held on Sep. 19 and 20.
More than 130 academic presentations of great value substantially conducive to the development of science and technology and social progress of mankind have been made in this conference held on the theme of “integration of education, scientific research and production”.
The opening ceremony was on in the Sci-tech Complex on Sep. 19. Present there were Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, Hong So Hon, president of Kim Chaek University of Technology, officials, professors, researchers and postgraduates of the university, delegations and delegates from different universities, research institutes and organizations from several foreign countries including Kiril Golokvast, vice-president of Far East Federal University, Wang Xun Lian, vice-president of China University of Geology, compatriot scientists overseas and the delegation of Korean University, Chongryon.
Hong So Hon, president of Kim Chaek University of Technology delivered the opening address. He expressed his gratitude to the foreign scholars, scientists from different universities and scientific research institutions of the world and Korean scientists living abroad.
He said the participants would have profound discussions on scientific and technological successes and experiences and activate exchange and cooperation that could contribute to the development of science and education, which is the basis of state building and an important criterion for determining the strength of a nation.
Expressing his expectation for this conference to mark a significant turn in further developing exchange between KUT and many foreign educational and scientific research institutions, he declared the opening of the conference.
Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission and then Wang Xun Lian, vice-president of China University of Geosciences, gave congratulatory speeches.
The International Conference was held in the E-library of Kim Chaek University of Technology(KUT) in 6 separate sections. They were Geoscience & Mining, Metal and Material engineering, Machinery and Energy, Information communication and Automatic control, Measurement and Analysis, Information science sections. Many valuable presentations aroused interest in this conference, especially those such as “Data-Space Cross-Gradient Joint Inversion of Multiple Geophysical Data”, “Principles of Formation of Underground Transport Systems of Megacities”, “Gain-Phase Type Robust Control Theory”, “Real Time Object Detection from Infrared Image Using Ring Filter”, “Cooperative Industrial Partner Robot System for Handling Heavy Mechanical Parts in Assembly Lines”, “Determining Reasonable Correcting Planes for Balancing of Flexible Rotors”.
The Conference was closed in the Sci-tech complex on Sep. 20.
The international conference served as an important event for further developing scientific exchange and cooperation between universities, research institutions and organizations over the world.
During the conference Kim Chaek University of Technology threw a party to welcome participants to the international conference.
Also, participants visited Mangyongdae and several places in Pyongyang including International Friendship Exhibition House and KUT scientists’ residential area in Mirae Scientists’ Street.

National Departmental Scientific Symposium was held on Sep. 20 to 21 at Kim Chaek University of Technology in commemoration of the 70th Founding Anniversary of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

The symposium was held, divided into sections of ideology and theory, history, industrial and economic management, machine engineering, mechanics and fluid and aeronautical engineering, information processing, information security, computer system, geological prospecting, geological engineering, mining and extractive engineering, metal engineering, metal material, thermal engineering, shipbuilding engineering, electrical engineering, electronic element and electronic material, applied electronics, automation engineering, information communication, dynamics, basic mathematics, applied mathematics, applied physics, basic chemistry, applied chemistry, nano technology, critical science and foreign language, etc.
Presented here were over 1 000 papers of social and natural sciences from 70 universities and scientific research institutes including

In departmental symposiums of natural sciences, several papers of great value including “Influences of Solvent Polarization and Ion Size over Interrelation of Charged Electrodes in Nanometer Range in Electrolyte”, “Axle floor-type design and operation of the high-speed rolling heating furnace”, “Exploits in Developing Advanced Electrical Resistivity Tomography instrument” were highly appreciated.
The symposium was closed in the culture hall of the university on Sep. 21.
In the closing ceremony, documents of presentation and memorial collections of papers were presented to those on the high ranking, together with the prize. Twenty excellent units were awarded letters of commendations and cups.

The research team leaded by Sin Jae Yong, PhD and Prof, rector of IT College and other member teachers including Mun Chang Hyok and Jong Il Ryong opened a remarkable prospect for decisively improving the quality of medical curing and prevention work of our university's hospital by their energetic research work for making its medical service and management based on the IT.
They built clinical data warehouse for hispital information system for clinical decision support and real-time decision making, and developed a muti-demensional analysis system and a signature system of electronical medical information exchange system between medical organs.
Taking advantage of their successes they continue to introduce their new IT medical system into all the hospitals of the country on the international healthcare standard.

Teachers and researchers of Department of Physics including Ri Gyong Ho, Assistant Prof. and Chief of Acoustic Engineering Lab and others developed several products applying ultrasonic techniques of cutting-edge technology, proving their effects in various fields of the national economy.
The team initiated an ultrasonic generator reliable under any loads in our own way and developed several products such as ultrasonic cleaner of different sizes (25, 40kHz), an ultrasonic humidifier, an ultrasonic disperse emulsifier, an ultrasonic thickness gage and a portable ultrasonic flaw detector.
On the basis of such successes, they are continuously making an active research work to develop new products, among them comes first an high intensity focoused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy.

The Students’ Robot Football Game-2018 was held in the university gym on July 30 to Aug. 2 amid great attention of educationists and students across the whole country.
In this contest were entered 12 teams including those from Pyongsong University of Coal Mining Industry and the 1st and 2nd teams from our university, drawn from the preliminary games by local teams.
The contest was played on the league match basis of 4 groups and from the quarter-finals, it was played on the knockout basis to decide the ranking. The playing time was 10 minutes each in the first and second half.
In case of a contrast of 10 scores, the game was ruled to end regardless of time in favour of technological superiority.
Different from last year’s regulations, 5 robots made one team, 3 timeouts only were allowed per a team in each game, goals only by kicking could be regarded as the score.
A Video Assistant Chief Referee System was introduced to ensure objective, scientific match.
Team 1 and Team 2 from our university surpassed all the teams with the score of 7: 0, 8:11, or for its technological superiority. The final game was played between the two teams from our university.
The game went on through kicks by cooperation, counter surprise attack across the central area, strong long-distance kicks arousing admiration, regret and surprise and the thrilling 4:3 victory and the first place of the contest was won by Team 2.
Through this contest, students came to be well equipped with theoretical and practical qualifications necessary to develop intelligent robots such as programming, developing and manufacturing of motor drivers, automatic control, information communication, image processing, artificial intelligence, etc.

A National Online English Competition for Technical University Students was held on July 31, gathering more than 800 students from over 60 universities and colleges throughout the country.
Unlike previous competitions for a small number of students, a large number of students, connected to the National Computer Network, competed online to ensure fairness, objectivity and accuracy. Direct appraisal system was introduced in grading so that test results could be graded simultaneously with the contest in an hour.
Various forms of problems were presented including multiple choices, true or false, finding correct answers, odd-one outs and matching to assess students’ English level through comprehension, listening, vocabulary and grammar on the common course book.
The 25 students from our university fully demonstrated their great abilities; ten of them took places from the 1st to the 10th among 800 odd students and the university became the top in more than 60 universities and colleges.
Chon Ye Jong in the 3rd grade of School of Information Science and Technology took the first place, Kim Chol Song in the 3rd grade of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, the 2nd place and Kim Ye Cho in the 3rd grade of School of Information Science and Technology, the 3rd place and thus contributed greatly to the university team’s victory.
