She also won the first place in comprehension and listening contests, finally winning the grand prix by all accounts in the individual ranking.
Kim Ju Song in the 4th grade of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics was applauded for his reading comprehension supported by versatile knowledge and rich emotion and took the 2nd place. Though being a student majoring in science, So Yong Ji in the 5th grade of the Faculty of Material Engineering surprised the audience with her good listening to those materials that others find difficult to catch up by only listening once and giving perfect answers. She got the 3rd place in the total individual ranking. Kim Hyok Jin in the 4th grade of College of Mechanical Science and Technology was highly praised in comprehension, listening, conversation and presentation contests and got the 3rd place.
By winning the 1st place for four successive times in this competition, the university enhanced his high prestige of a university good at foreign languages.

University students got together on May 18 to present their papers.
The meeting was organized to spark the students' passion for study and research and help them build up their capacity for presentation, this year that marks the 70th anniversary of the University.
Since early February efforts were made to work out papers with the result that as many as 90 papers were completed.
The event was featured by four highly appreciated scientific essays and a paper which was evaluated as the best in the 10th Mathematical Modeling Contest.
Ri Kwon, student at the College of Information Science and Technology, published his research findings on the blind digital image water marking robust for print and shooting using DCT. Pong Myong Song, student at the Faculty of Automation Engineering, dealt with the research on the walking pattern generation of bipedal robot. Ri Kum Chol, who studies at the Faculty of Material Engineering, presented “Research on the establishment of copper staves casting process in blast furnace”. Jong Hyon Il, An Jin Su and Hyon Jin Song from the College of Information Science and Technology released “Research on efficiency evaluation of running rule on motorway in accordance with the keep-right rule”, which stole the show at the 10th Mathematical Modelling Contest.

The Department of Industrial Furnace Engineering of the Faculty of Metal Engineering has developed in Korean way a switching valve, which constitutes the two core elements together with the honeycomb regenerator in high-temperature air combustion (HTAC) technology, which proves effective in putting Juche iron production on normal footing.
The research team led by Department chief Kim In Gyu set the switching valve in a 3 channel switching mode to suit the characteristic features of the high-temperature air combustion furnace in which gas is alternatively combusted on both sides of the combustion chamber, and selected the compressed air-type driving mode, which is simple in structure, and very reliable and swift in action.
They checked up the stability of valve surface and axis with the structural mechanical and hydrodynamic characteristics based on computer simulation, and designed a rational structure dimension of body according to the opening height with minimum pressure loss and the input-output diameter of air and waste gas.
The switching valve has been recognized as a research achievement of great economic value as it is applicable to large furnaces, does not make much noise, and is free from any waste gas leakage and risk of explosion.
