The commemorative meeting was held on Apr.19 marking the 70th anniversary of the field guidance of President
Present were Cha Hui Rim, chairman of Pyongyang People’s Committee, Kim Pong Sok, vice-chairman of Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the WPK, Hong So Hon, KUT president, and its teachers and students.
Commemorative speech was reported by Ri Song Uk, chairman of the university municipal committee of the WPK.
He emphasized:
The great President embroidered his first sacred trace of guidance on Pyongyang Technical Institute (then), which served as an important turning point in laying firm foundations for the development of Juche-oriented sci-tech education.
Always taking special care of the university’s education, the President, in the talk with university’s leading officials that day On Building a Magnificent University of Technology, gave valuable instructions on its position and mission in training national technical cadres and construction of its building, and he took benevolent measures to improve the living conditions for its teaching staff and students.
Thanks to his great love, a newly founded university was able to fully establish its material and technical foundations as befitting the mother university for training technical talents for industrial sectors at that time when everything was scarce and difficult, and dynamically push ahead with talents training, thus making positive contributions to the construction of a new country.
He not only clarified the way ahead of the university in each period and at each stage of the development of the revolution but also developed it into a university of technology as required by the developing reality.

Such great love and trust of the peerlessly great men made it possible for KUT to make a fresh leap forward and innovation in the campaign to train a great number of sci-tech talents who will shoulder the future of Juche Korea and to occupy the fortress of cutting-edge science.
He added, upholding the great leaders’ lifetime instructions and the vital tasks delivered by the respected Comrade

Marking the greatest national holiday, various sports and pastime games of the teaching staff and students were held in the university gym and playground.
Among all other exciting events the volleyball final of the teaching staff in the gym and football final of the students from the College of Mechanical Science and Technology and the Faculty of Metallurgical Engineering particularly highlighted the atmosphere.
All the players in the relay race and tug-of-war and other games demonstrated their high skills which were normally practiced, while the spectators raised the level of cheering passion, which further stimulated the players’ competitive spirit.
In the competition the College of Information Science and Technology took the first place, the College of Mechanical Science and Technology came second and the Faculty of Metallurgical Engineering came third.

The world final of the 43rd international students' program contest was held in Porto University in Portugal from Mar. 31 to Apr. 5.
This contest drew 135 university teams including our university which had won the 8 intercontinental semifinals of about 52 000 students from 3 098 universities in 111 countries.
In the 5-hour-lasting contest, Mun So Min, Ri Kuk Song, Kim Song Il from our university successfully solved lots of problems with the help of Pro. Jong Chol Ryong so as to win the silver medal (8th place in the world standing) and the certificate and the eastern Asia regional supreme prize at a time.

On Apr. 1, held was the opening ceremony of teaching staff and students of the university for the coming academic year.
Before beginning the ceremony, the teaching staff and students laid baskets of flowers and bouquets before the mosaic portrayal of President
President Hong So Hon made an opening address in the ceremony of the new academic year.
He mentioned in his address that officials, teachers and students of the university had launched the general offensive for thoroughly carrying out on-the-spot teachings of the respected Comrade
He said in his report that they could train a great number of creation-oriented and practical talents and scientists with strong revolutionary spirit and high faculties of inquiry and application by creating and introducing a lot of efficient and superior teaching methods in the last academic year to meet the demands of the knowledge-based era that is rapidly developing
He said with great passion that they had had the honour of receiving scores-odd times of appreciations of the respected Comrade
The fact was also mentioned in his report that in those days there emerged lots of state medallists and awardees of degrees and titles including the state top-honored scientist for the year 2018 and awardees of Feb.16 Sci-Tech Prize and they received a number of diplomas and certificates including the state patents and certificates of sci-tech achievement records.
He continued to say in emphasis that all officials, teachers and researchers, in this academic year too, should raise a fierce wind of establishing the habit of studying and researching and improving ability with a high ambition of being authorities in their major fields without parallel in the world and the world scholars, bearing in their minds the teaching of the respected Comrade
He said that students should study harder and harder with a great dignity and pride of studying at the eldest son university of the state and the revolutionary university that trains the motive force of our revolution so as to prepare themselves fully to become creation-oriented scientific and technological talents with strong revolutionary spirit and high faculties of inquiry and application and scientists faithful to the Party and revolution.

Kim Il Hyok, lecturer of the Faculty of Resources Probing Engineering, has developed the wireless elastic wave measuring instrument which is widely used in practice.
This instrument is used to rationally determine the covering layer of a waterway tunnel by measuring the strength of the bedrock.
Newly developed elastic wave measuring instrument is composed in the form of radio system and graph display and sensors are installed so as to serve as a measuring duster in any position without confusion. Therefore it is very fast and measuring work is done conveniently and the best thing about this instrument is that it has no telegraphic interruption and noise.
