The 10th Mathematical Modelling Contest of the University was held from April 30 to May 5.
The contest, which drew over 90 students in 31 teams selected from colleges and faculties, took place in the way of examining excellent answers from each unit.
Jong Hyong Il, An Jin Su and Hyon Jin Song from the College of Information Science &Technology won the contest. Jang Kum Chol, Jo Kuk Jin and Kim Ji Hyon from the Faculty of Automation Engineering finished runners-up and Kim Jin Il, Ri Kang Hyok and O Yon A from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics came third.
They owed their success to Jong Myong Guk, lecturer in the Department of Information Processing at the College of Information Science & Technology, Kim Ju Hyong, head of research lab of bio-control engineering of the Faculty of Automation Engineering, and O Chol Won, lecturer in the Deaprtment of Numeral Mathematics at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, who devoted time and energy to their education.

Marking a new academic year, a ceremony of teaching staff and students of Kim Chaek University of Technology took place on April 2 Juche 107(2018).
Prior to the meeting, the participants laid bouquets and baskets of flowers at the mosaic mural depicting President
President Hong So Hon made an opening remark.
In the speech, he referred to the remarkable successes the lecturers, researchers and students made in education, scientific research and study in the previous academic year, true to the Party’s plan on bringing about a revolution in education in the new century.
In the previous academic year, educational contents were put on a practical, comprehensive and up-to-date level at a higher level as required by the knowledge economy era, many useful and superior teaching methods created, and material foundations for practical training laid, he said.
A number of lecturers, researchers and postgraduates successfully solved scientific and technological problems arising in different economic sectors and helping other universities and colleges introduce IT into education, winning the praise and appreciation of the respected Comrade
In those days, he noted, the university produced a lot of state prize winners including the best scientists of the DPRK in 2017 and the February 16 Science and Technology Prize winners, as well as academic degree and title holders while being awarded lots of certificates such as national patent certificate and certificate of registration of state sci-tech hits.
In the new academic year, all the lecturers and researchers, upholding the banner of self-development first, should constantly improve the content and methods of education and its quality as well in line with the developing trend of modern education by flaring up the fierce flames of radical improvement in education in the new century, thereby sprucing up its appearance as the world’s prestigious university and intensifying scientific research conducive to building up an economic giant and improving the people’s living standards, he added.
He called on all the students to hold high the study-first slogan so as to enrich their knowledge for breaking through the cutting edge amid the fierce flames of a campaign to overtake, model after and share experience, and resolutely thwart the imperialists’ moves for ideological and cultural infiltration with steadfast revolutionary and class principles.
Speeches were made by Hwang Jong Hyok, a first-grade student at the Materials Engineering Faculty, Yun Chol Min, a sixth-grade student at the Applied Mathematics Faculty, and Ri Kyong Chan, vice-rector for school affairs at the College of Mechanical Science and Technology.

Kim Chaek University of Technology took the first place at the Codechef Programming Challengers’ Contest held from March 2 to12 Juche107(2018).
Unlike previous contests, the recent event was divided into two groups according to the contestants’ points. The contestants were required to earn above 1800 points in order to take part in Group A, and those who failed with the points were to belong to Group B.
Eight problems including one challenge were presented in the Group A contest which drew over 1 000 contestants from various countries including the DPRK, Russia, China, India, Bulgaria, Sweden and Portugal.
Kim Chaek University of Technology from the DPRK came first with 800 points by satisfactorily solving all the problems in the event.

The competition took place in the Kim Chaek University of Technology gym from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, Juche 106 (2017) with the participation of students from 12 universities, including the University of Sciences.
Fourth graders Ho Chol Rim, Ri Yu Gang, Sin Yong Min, Kim Hyo Song, Kim Ju Song and Chon Song Hak of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, 4th graders Kim Jun Il, Pae Myong Hyok, Yu Jong Hyok, Jang Song Ryong and Choe Ju Bom of the Faculty of Automation Engineering, 3rd graders Rim Song Ho and Kim Mun Gwan and 4th grader Pak Hun of the Faculty of Communications, 4th graders Choe Pok Nam and Cha Song Il, 3rd grader Chae Hyok Chol and 2nd graders Jong Hyon Uk, Ryu Jin Song and Ri Kye Song of the College of Information Science and Technology, were excellent at school and conducted brisk scientific research activities in the past. They fully displayed their high abilities taking first place in the contest and thus demonstrating their university’s endeavour to surpass the world in science and technology.

Fifth grader Hong Chung Song, 4th graders Kim Song Il, Ri Kuk Song and Pak Il Bom and 3rd grader Han Kum Sok of the Faculty of Automation Engineering, 4th grader Nam Phyong Hyok of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and 1st graders Kim Kang Guk, Kim Song San and Rim Ju Song of the College of Information Science and Technology won special prizes in the contest held from Sep. 12 to 14, Juche 106 (2017) in Pyongyang University of Architecture.
The contest was participated in by 78 groups from 60-odd universities, including Pyongyang University of Architecture and the University of Sciences.
Like in the International Students’ Programming Contest, the competition was held in such a way that each group of 3 had to solve 10 easy and difficult problems such as that of calculating the days of the given dates, and those related to dynamic programming, divide and conquer, string processing, graph theory, data structure and solutions of simultaneously combinational equations.
Hong Chung Song, Kim Song Il and Kim Kang Guk of the 1st group put their heads together to solve the most difficult problems, which required the combination of graph theory and divide and conquer ahead of all other groups.
Ri Kuk Song, Pak Il Bom, Rim Ju Song of the 2nd group solved the complex problems preferentially, and Nam Phyong Hyok, Han Kum Sok and Kim Song San of the 3rd group helped one another to find answers to the problems presented.
As a result, students from Kim Chaek University of Technology solved the most problems, thus obtaining special prizes.
