Teachers and researchers of Department of Physics including Ri Gyong Ho, Assistant Prof. and Chief of Acoustic Engineering Lab and others developed several products applying ultrasonic techniques of cutting-edge technology, proving their effects in various fields of the national economy.
The team initiated an ultrasonic generator reliable under any loads in our own way and developed several products such as ultrasonic cleaner of different sizes (25, 40kHz), an ultrasonic humidifier, an ultrasonic disperse emulsifier, an ultrasonic thickness gage and a portable ultrasonic flaw detector.
On the basis of such successes, they are continuously making an active research work to develop new products, among them comes first an high intensity focoused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy.

The Department of Industrial Furnace Engineering of the Faculty of Metal Engineering has developed in Korean way a switching valve, which constitutes the two core elements together with the honeycomb regenerator in high-temperature air combustion (HTAC) technology, which proves effective in putting Juche iron production on normal footing.
The research team led by Department chief Kim In Gyu set the switching valve in a 3 channel switching mode to suit the characteristic features of the high-temperature air combustion furnace in which gas is alternatively combusted on both sides of the combustion chamber, and selected the compressed air-type driving mode, which is simple in structure, and very reliable and swift in action.
They checked up the stability of valve surface and axis with the structural mechanical and hydrodynamic characteristics based on computer simulation, and designed a rational structure dimension of body according to the opening height with minimum pressure loss and the input-output diameter of air and waste gas.
The switching valve has been recognized as a research achievement of great economic value as it is applicable to large furnaces, does not make much noise, and is free from any waste gas leakage and risk of explosion.

Mt. Paektu, the ancestral mountain of Korea and the sacred mountain of the revolution, is the focus of attention of volcanologists in many countries around the world as a dormant one.
A Mt. Paektu volcano research group consisting of geophysicists from the Resources Probing Engineering Faculty including Kim Kang Sop, a department chief of the faculty, and the Academy of Engineering Science has been conducting systematic research into Mt. Paektu volcano since the beginning of the present century based on its over 30 years of experience on magnetotelluric method.
The focus of the research was to shed light on the magma shape and its movement deep underground as clearly as possible by combining the magnetotelluric (MT), gravitational and magnetic survey and volcanic fluid dynamic simulation. Research results on the MT data processing, cross gradient joint inversion, body growth inversions of gravity data were made public through three papers in the Journal of Applied Geophysics, the SCI magazine.
The research results on the 3D HT dynamics of Mt. Paektu volcano based on the geophysical survey data were issued in the International Seminar on the Research of Mt. Paektu Volcano at the Sci-Tech Complex cosponsored by MPGG and PIINTEC in August Juche 105(2016), and the Future Research Project on Mt. Paektu Volcano in the Royal Society in June Juche 106(2017).
